Seit Oktober 2019 arbeite ich mit dem Material Pappmaché, welches ich durch künstlerische Materialforschung untersuche. Diese Materialforschung findet zum größten Teil in meinem Atelier statt.
Hierbei entwickele ich eigene Testverfahren, um an die Grenzen – und darüber hinaus – eines plastischen, zu Modulen geformten, Materials zu gehen.
Die Materialforschung anhand dieser Module äußert sich in Form von Installationen, Videos, Fotografien, Performances und Zeichnungen, wobei ich das Material häufig in Bezug zu meinem eigenen Körper als Richtwert setze. In einem konzeptuellen, strukturierten, auf vorangegangene Ergebnisse aufbauenden Vorgehen bilden die Arbeiten eine stringente Erzählung über das jeweilige Material. Hierbei ist die Forschung, das Herausfinden, das Tun an sich schon die künstlerische Arbeit und nicht erst das daraus hervorgehende Resultat.
Diese künstlerische Forschung, die während meines Masterstudiums stattfand, fasste ich in einem Künstler*innenbuch zusammen, um den Forschungsprozess sicht- und mitvollziehbar zu machen. Das erste der beiden Bücher beschäftigt sich mit der Untersuchung verschiedener Pappmaché-Zusammensetzungen, um die für meine Zwecke geeignetste Materialmischung zu finden. Das zweite Buch behandelt einerseits die Produktion von Pappmaché über die Zeitspanne meines Masterstudiums und deren Veränderung. Andererseits wird hier der Forschungsverlauf von der Idee einer überlebensgroßen Installation rein aus Pappmaché (eines Hochsitzes), über das Bauen und Testen kleiner Elemente und Versionen dessen bis zum aktuellsten Stand erläutert.
Neben einem erklärenden Text finden sich in beiden Büchern außerdem Prozessfotos und ein ganzes Kapitel mit Datenblättern, die in Tabellenform die genauen Daten der jeweiligen Forschungsprozesse zusammenfassen.

Das Künstler*innenbuch entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit Angelina Simon.

Es wird im Laufe des Jahres mit einer Auflage von 25 Stück käuflich zu erwerben sein.

//    Since October 2019, I have been working with the material papier-mâché, which I am examining through artistic material research. Most of this material research takes place in my studio.
Here I develop my own test procedures in order to go to the limits – and beyond – of a plastic material formed into modules. The material research based on these modules takes the form of installations, videos, photographs, performances and drawings, whereby I set the material into relation to my own body as a reference. In a conceptual structured procedure based on previous results, the works form a stringent narrative about the material. Here, the research, the doing is already the artistic work in itself and not just the result that emerges from it.
I summarized this artistic research, which took place during my master’s degree, in an artist’s book in order to make the research process visible and understandable. The first of the two books deals with the investigation of different papier-mâché compositions in order to find the most suitable mixture of materials for my purposes. The second book deals with the production of papier-mâché over the period of my master’s degree and how it changed. On the other hand, the second book outlines the course of research, from the idea of ​​a larger-than-life installation made entirely of papier-mâché, through the building and testing of small elements and versions of it, to the current state of the art.
In addition to an explanatory text, both books also contain process photos and a whole chapter with data sheets that summarize the exact data of the research processes in tabular form.

The artist book was created in collaboration with Angelina Simon.
